Death of Mrs. Alford. At 4 o'clock this morning Mrs. Mary Ann Alford, wife of Mr. Jacob Alford, died at the family residence on East Main, between Pearl and Bank streets. Mrs. Alford had been ill for three weeks of pneumonia, but her death came suddenly and unexpected to her family. She was prepared for the change, however, and passed away peacefully. Mrs. Alford came to this city with her husband from Philadelphia, in 1839, and for over forty years resided on West Market street, between Seventh and Eighth. She had been ill during the entire time the family occupied the present residence. She was one among the first members of the Second Presbyterian church. For several years, on account of its nearness to her residence, she held a membership by transfer at Wesley Chapel, but several years ago returned to the Second church. She was a most excellent Christian woman, and illustrated her profession in her daily life. She leaves a husband and one daughter -- the wife of Dr. Needham -- whose loss is irreparable. - New Albany Daily Ledger-Standard 12 Apr 1881
