Son of Andrew W. Lape and Maria (Van Buren) Lape

"Sylvester Lape, a veteran of the Civil War, and a respected citizen who recently was made unconscious by apoplexy, died at his home at East Worcester, Saturday, the 18th inst., aged about eighty years. Funeral services were held at the house, Monday, the Rev. Mr. Silvernail officiating and the body was placed in the Worcester vault for a few months, when interment will be made in the family plot in Maple Grove cemetery.

Besides his wife, Mr. Lape leaves five sons; Amos of South New Berlin, Willis of Burlington Flats, Richard of Mineral Springs, Jacob of Cobleskill, and Asa of Glen Falls; also three daughters, Mrs. Floyd Freece of East Worcester, Mrs. George Smith of Mineral Springs, and Miss Lillian Lape, who reside at home; also six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Mr. Lape was a member of the Lutheranville church. He was married February 18th, 1866.

He enlisted in the Union army August 18th, 1862, and was a member of the Co. B, 7th N.Y. Artillery, in which he did valiant service in the Army of the Potomac under McClellan, Grant and others. At the close of the war he was honorably discharged and came home as corporal.

Mr. Lape was the last member of the Johnson Post in East Worcester. A kind husband, an indulgent father and good citizen has gone to his reward.---Our East Worcester Reporter."
