W.E. Whiteside Is Killed in Accident at Reading, Cal - Parents Reside Here


William Edward Whiteside, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Whiteside, was killed as a result of falling down a shaft at the Hazel mine, near Reading, Cal. a few days ago. He was 28 years of age. The funeral will be held at Reading tomorrow. Richard Whiteside was at Silver City, N.M.. when he got the news of his son's death, and he left for Reading at once. Job Whiteside, a brother of Richard, who was at the Calaveras grove of big trees, left for Reading as soon as he heard of the death of his nephew. The young man was a nephew of Robert B. Whiteside, of Duluth, who is in Chicago on business.
The particulars of the accident are lacking. The victim was well known in Duluth and on the ranges, and he has been in the west seven years, where he was doing well. He is survived by his wife.
The death of William E. Whiteside is the first to occur in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Whiteside. There were nine children, the oldest of whom is 36 years of age.. The surviving children are Mrs. W.J. Prythall of Hashwauk, Mrs. Margaret French of Tower and Misses Lydia and Ila Whiteside of Duluth, Howard Whiteside of Hermissllo, Mexico, Albert Whiteside of Revelstoke, B.C., and R.J. and Charles Whiteside, of Duluth. Howard is supposed to be on his way to Reading, but he may be coming to Duluth instead.
