Charles, through his previous marriage to Marilyn D. Carlson, had one daughter (Marilla Sue(Floyd) Bailey of Lafayette; and one son, Kevin(Lori) Carlson of Wheaton, IL. He had three grandchildren, Angela Roberts of Rockwell, NC, Lynelle Hertenstein of West Chicago,IL, and Brian Carlson of Wheaton, IL. He had four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Early in life Charles graduated from Attica High School and worked briefly at Alcoa Aluminum plant in Lafayette. He later became a respected farmer in the Linden area, but also showed skills as a master carpenter who built three houses. He served on the Linden State Bank Board of Directors for 31 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the former Linden Masonic Lodge, Eagles, Elk, Moose, and attended the Linden Methodist Church. He served on the Linden Town Board for four years and as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 323. In his later years Charles displayed a passion for dancing and music writing. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing and singing his composition "We're Lighting the Christmas Tree" which he had copyrighted.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9, at 2:00 PM in the Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, Crawfordsville, with Revs. Mindy Huffman and Patti Bymaster officiating. Entombment will follow the funeral service. Friends may call at the mausoleum on Tuesday from Noon until service time. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
