He was born in Logan County, Ohio on January 18, 1934 to the late Raymond L. and Senora (Smith) Bickham. On July 16, 1966 he married the former Elizabeth Bullock in Illinois, and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Pamela Ann (Roscelle) Clark II of Bellefontaine; four step-children, Deborah Ann (Joe) Roberts of Rushsylvania, Sherrie Lynn (Dennis) Stevenson and Tina Marie Mancuso, both of Jupiter, Florida, and Dwight David (Linda) Gossard of Stewart, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Amy (Sam) Keller, Billie Jo (Bo) O'Brien, Kambria Masters, Roscelle Clark III, Tyler Stevenson, Caitlin Stevenson, Brandt (Christina) Mann, Kindra Sinka, Nathan Mancuso, Nicole Gossard and Tara Gossard; 4 great grandchildren, Hannah O'Brien, Owen O'Brien, Alaina Mann and Courtney Mann; a sister, Anna Irene Coil of Wapakoneta; and numerous nieces and nephews. A step-son, William H. Gossard III and a sister, Senora Louise Brugler preceded him in death.
Vance was a retired highway construction superintendent for Heffner Construction for 20 years, during which time he received numerous awards for the quality of his work. He also worked 10 years for Northwood Asphalt. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, Bellefontaine Elks Lodge #132, a member of Bellefontaine Lodge #209 F&AM, was 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and especially the time he and his wife Elizabeth have spent with their special friends over the last 40+ years.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with Gene Marine officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 20th from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the High Point Regional Cancer Center or Universal Home Health & Hospice Care.
