Adelaide Stiglitz Crumpler, 82, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 7, 2006.

She was born in Plainfield, N.J., on March 9, 1923, to the late Andrew and Irene Stiglitz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Dr. Warren H. Crumpler; two sisters Patricia Robertson and Elizabeth Teller, and a brother, Andrew Stiglitz.

She was survived by eight children, sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a very special nephew.

"Stig" as she was known, graduated from Plainfield (NJ) High 1940. She attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va., and received a Bachelor of Science and a graduate degree in Nursing from Duke University in 1945. She was working as head nurse in the delivery room at Duke Hospital when she met her husband. They married on December 25, 1949.

Mrs. Crumpler was a member of the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for 47 years. She was the first Woman Deacon elected in the church and in the Wilmington Presbytery.
