Eldon Aery, 75, of Salem, Oregon and Baudette, Minnesota died at his home on July 9, 2012 following a long illness.

Eldon was born to Charles and Elvera Aery on November 14, 1936 in Hugo, Colorado. When he was six months olds, his family moved to Rako, Minnesota, where they lived for several years.

Eldon started his schooling at the Rako School. When Eldon was thirteen years old, his family moved to Belgrade, Missouri. They lived in Belgrade for three years and then moved back to the farm in Rako.

Eldon joined the United States Air Force in 1955 and served in Merced, California. After his discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Minnesota for a short time working in logging and construction.

In 1960, Eldon moved to Salem, Oregon where he worked in construction and met his wife, Darla Tungate. They married on December 16, 1961. Darla's two daughters, Sherri' and Lisa were adopted by Eldon.

Eldon and Darla had two sons, Christopher and Shawn. Darla died suddenly in June of 1974 leaving Eldon to raise his four young children.

Eldon started his own construction business, E.A. Backhoe in April 1976.

In 1981, Eldon married Liz Wohlgemuth on October 10. Eldon sold his business and retired in 1994. Eldon and Liz made a summer home in Minnesota at Bayview Lodge in Baudette. Liz died in 1999. Eldon continued to spend the summers in Minnesota until his health would not allow it.

Eldon enjoyed working in his business, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles in 1944, wife Darla in 1974, sister Edna in 1988, wife Liz in 1999, sister Nellie in 2004, brother Donnie in 2011 and brother Carl in 2011.

He is survived by his children, Sherri, Lisa, Chris, Shawn (Tracy) as well as grandchildren Earthan, Tyler, Rachel, Nichole, Ashley, Caitlin and Madeline. He is also survived by sister, Juanita Ellis, sister, Margaret (Rodney) Turner, brother, Bobby Aery, brother, Billy (Rebecca) Aery and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his life-long family friend, Jack (Karen) Ellis and numerous friends & family.

A celebration of Eldon's life will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Baudette. All family and friends are welcome to join us.

SALEM - Eldon E. Aery was born in Amy, Colorado to parents Charlie and Elvera Aery. His family moved to Rako, Minnesota when he was six months old and remained there until he was thirteen, when his family moved to Belgrade, Missouri but after three years, the returned to Minnesota.

Eldon joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served in Merced, California. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Minnesota for a short time working in logging and construction. In 1960, he moved to Salem, Oregon where he worked in construction and met his wife Darla Tungate. They married 12-16-61 and Eldon adopted her two daughters, Sherrie and Lisa. Together they had two sons, Christopher and Shawn. His wife died suddenly from an aneurism in 1974 leaving Eldon to raise four children.

In April, 1976 Eldon started his own construction business, E.A. Backhoe. Eldon married Laura "Liz" (Kimsey) Wohlgemuth 10-10-81. Together they ran the business, enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and visiting with family and friends in Minnesota, and retired in 1994. In 1997 they bought a home in Baudette, Minn. where they spent six months each year fishing and spending time with family and friends. Liz died in March, 1999. Eldon continued spending time in their summer home until 2011 when his health would no longer allow him to travel.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, wives Darla and Liz, brothers Charles, Carl and Donnie, and sister Nellie. He is survived by his children Sherrie, Lisa, Chris, Shawn (Tracy), step-son Dan, and grandchildren: Tyler, Earthen, Dean, Rachel, Nicole, Ashley, Caitlyn, Madeline, and Stacie; and brothers Billy and Bobby Aery, sisters Juanita Ellis and Margaret Turner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends and family including life-long friends Jack and Karen Ellis, and Jim and Kim Nugent.

Eldon was an active member of the Moose Lodge in Baudette, Minnesota, and American Legion and Elks Lodge.

Eldon died 7-9-12 at his home in Salem, Oregon following a long illness. A Celebration of Eldon's life will be held Saturday, October 20 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place 7845 River Road N, Keizer, Oregon and all family and friends are invited. Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in West Salem at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
