Melzer Thomas Ellis, 83, former Athens furniture dealer, died early Friday morning at the home of a cousin, Mrs. E. E. Jacobs, Chauncey. He had been in ill health for several months.
Born at Chauncey, he came to Athens in 1910 where he owned and operated a furniture store until 1937, most of hat period in the Beckley Bldg.
His wife, Addie Preston Ellis, died in 1935. He is survived by five nieces and nephews, one of whom is Ellis Woodworth, Athens. Friends may call after Saturday noon at the Dowler-Ferguson-Hughes funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Gilbert Courtney. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
