Navy Lt. Gary I. Carver, a Vietnam veteran and naval reserve officer in aviation anti-submarine warfare, was a graduate of the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He was on duty with his flight unit and on a training mission when his jet collided mid-air with another aircraft. He was a graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School and of Western Kentucky University.
Gary was survived by his parents Leslie & Marie Carver of Franklin, Kentucky, and a daughter Karen Carver of Clarksville, Tennessee. Funeral services were in Franklin on March 9 at Booker Funeral Home, Rev. Joe Sanders presiding. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Garden. Pallbearers were Kenny Strunk, Jerry Fagg, Jerry Flowers, Larry Weems, Gene Starks, Joe Stearns, Don Raby, and Roger Lowen. Honorary pallbearers were the alumni & faculty of the U.S. Naval Reserve.
