SERIOUS ACCIDENT
Befalls John R. Polk While Cleaning His Skiff Sunday Afternoon - Paralyzed Partially
John R. Polk, of Tobinsport, met with a serious accident Sunday afternoon and as a result he has suffered a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Polk had his skiff standing up high on the river bank and while cleaning the mud from the inside, it fell over on him. He was so painfully injured that he was not able to cry for help and an hour and a half passed before anyone found him.
This is the second serious accident that has befallen Mr. Polk, and it is feared that his will prove fatal. One time he was rescued from drowning.
Mr. Polk is a well known farmer and carpenter of Perry county. He is a brother of Robt. Polk, of this city, who has been with him constantly since Sunday. Prof. Forrest Polk, of Lafayette, Ind., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Polk has arrived to be at the bedside of his father.

Death Results From A Peculiar Accident
Died Friday Night At His Home in Tobinsport
Funeral Held Sunday
John Riley Polk died Friday night at his home in Tobinsport. His death was the result of the serious and peculiar accident which befell him last Sunday afternoon while handling his skiff on the Ohio river bank at Tobinsport. It was reported last week that he was paralysed, but this was not the case, Dr. Simons said, but a more critical condition.
This was the second dangerous accident that he had met, having been rescused from drowning while crossing a creek horse-back several years ago.
Mr. Polk was forty two years of age and was a well-known farmer of Perry County. He is survived by his wife who was Miss Clara Leaf and one son, Forrest Polk, professor of the public school at Sharpesville, Ind. Besides these he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sanders and Mrs. Emma Scales and one brother, Robert Polk of this city.
The funeral was held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. L.S. Sanders of Franklin, Ind. Mr. Polk was a member of the Methodist Church and was a good man, liked by young and old. Beautiful flowers were sent by kind friends and relatives in loving remembrance for the deceased and the interment was held in the Lamb Cemetery.
