Death of William McConaghy.

Again the Death Angel has entered a quiet and peaceful home in the village of Grantsville, Penn township, and took therefrom a loving husband and a kind father. William McConaghy departed this life, January 5th, 1899, aged 61 years, 7 months, and 15 days. Eleven years ago Mr. McConaghy had a light paralytic stroke; on the 22nd day of September, 1897, he experienced a second stroke, and from that time on he could only walk across the room by the aid of another. On the evening of the 4th inst. the entire body became paralyzed, ending in death on the morning of the 5th.
William McConaghy was born in Cromwell township, this county. He was a soldier of the Civil War, serving first as a drummer in Co. A. 110th Pa. Vols. In 1863 he enlisted in Col. K, Captain Henry Fox, 188th Regt. Pa. Vol., and was discharged on the 14th day of December, 1865.
The deceased was married on the 22nd of August, 1858, to Sarah E., daughter of Andrew Parks, late of Cass township, Rev. Samuel Ewell, then pastor of the M.P. church at Cassville, officiating. The newly married couple took up their abode in Smith valley, near Cassville. Their children are Maggie, wife of Walter M. Parks; Mary J., wife of Anderson Bowman, both residing near Tempest, Illinois; Lettie E., wife of Samuel Parks, of Blair county, Pa.; William G., John and Hays, of Mapleton; Amanda, Ross, Ada E. and Clara Annie, at home. One daughter, Lewella B., wife of Sylvester Reed, preceded her father into the spirit world. Two sisters of the deceased, Mrs. Mary Jane, wife of Charles Deeters, of Mapleton, and Elizabeth, wife of James Stewart, residing at Durand, Wis., with three half-sisters and three half-brothers; Ellen, married to A.K. Skipper, of Mapleton; Roseanna, wife of James Banks, of Ryde station, Mifflin county, Pa.; Rebecca, wife of William Banks, Spruce Creek, Pa.; James Price, Newton Hamilton, Pa.; John T., Mill Creek, Pa.; and George, of Durand, Wis, survive the deceased. The aged mother, now in her 83rd year, and residing with her daughter, Mrs. Banks, at Ryde station, was present at the funeral of her son. Mr. McConaghy united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1860 and remained a consistent member till death. He was also a charter member of the M.G. Isett Post, No. 635, of the G.A.R., at Marklesburg. This post attended the comrade's funeral in a body, the same being held on Friday afternoon, and was largely attended, Rev. Stansfield, pastor of the M.E. church preaching an able sermon from the words, "For What is Your Life," found in James, 4th chapter and 14th verse, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Marklesburg cemetery, there to wait the resurrection of the just.
"Here I lay my burden down, Change the cross into the crown."
To the bereaved family we extend our heartfelt sympathy in this their time of deepest sorrow. C.
