Nellie Margaret Payne, age 88, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Pendleton Manor, Franklin, WV. She was a resident of Pendleton Manor since May 4, 2010, and was formerly of Earlysville, VA. She was born on May 13, 1924 at Durbin, WV, the daughter of the late Oscar and Katherine Phares Slavin. She was married to William Payne, who lives in Charlottesville, VA.

Nellie was a graduate of Pocahontas County High School and Jefferson Business School. She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxilary and was a Presbyterian. She retired as a bookkeeper from Allied Building Supply, Charlottesville, VA.

Mrs. Payne is survived by: a daughter, Dana Sharp Kinney and husband Vincent of Monterey, VA; 2 grandchildren, Joseph Woltering, Beth Woltering; and a step granddaughter, Erin Colleen Kinney. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by: her husbands, Lyle Sharp and Robert Pyles; a daughter, Mary Katherine Sharp; 2 brothers, Theodore Slavin, Oscar Slavin, Jr.; and a sister, Evelyn Slavin Calver.

Per Mrs. Payne's request, her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date at the Pendleton Manor. Burial will be in Arbovale Cemetery, Arbovale, WV. Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com.
