Philip Joseph Sukup, son of Joseph and Lucy (Wagner) Sukup, was born August 29, 1930 on the family farmstead southwest of Creighton. Phil resided on the farm until his death on April 12, 2008 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk at the age of 77.

Philip attended District #26 rural school through the 2nd grade and then attended St. Ludger Academy. Phil worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in February of 1952. He attended boot camp at Fort Riley, KS for 16 weeks where he finished high school and then attended leadership school for weapons infantry for 8 weeks. His orders were received for Far East Command (Korea) where he arrived in November of 1952 and served with the 5th Infantry Regiment. He fought on the front lines in the Punch Bowl area. He returned to Nebraska in 1953 and worked construction.

On January 28, 1958 he married Ruth Morris Kummer at Genoa, NE. They lived in McLean, NE until 1959, when they moved to the family farm. He farmed, sold Dekalb seed corn, and built Butler Grain Bins and Buildings as the owner of Sukup Farm Supply, Inc. In his later years, he enjoyed buying, selling and restoring antique tractors. He also repaired and worked on caterpillars and graders as a hobby and loved golfing, fishing and his garden. He was also on the Board of Supervisors for Bazile Township, Antelope County.

Phil was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church and VFW Post #1151 of Creighton.

Philip is survived by: daughters, Theresa and husband Scott Stange of Norfolk, Diana and husband Tom Borer of Neligh, Cathy and husband Steve Ashmore of Norfolk, Sharon and husband Ron Mach of Wasilla, AK, and Carolyn and husband Bob Schwindt of Brunswick; sons, Larry and wife Angela Kummer of Creighton and Randy and his wife Sonya Kummer of Nebraska City; 28 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and sister, Alice Closter of Lincoln.

Philip was preceded in death by: parents, Joseph and Lucy; wife, Ruth Sukup; grandsons, Andrew Sukup and Kyle Kummer; brothers, Leonard, Paul, and Bernard Sukup; and sister, Gertrude Moser.

Burial was in the St. Ludger Catholic Cemetery, Creighton, NE next to his wife Ruth and two grandsons, Andrew Sukup d.2004 aged 15 Find a Grave #19756448 and Kyle Kummer d.2006 aged 18 Find a Grave #114800009.
