Esther G. Dunavin, 88, of 901 N. Main St., Normal, died at 10:13 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, after a brief illness. She had been a resident of McLean County Nursing Home for the past two years.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Normal, with James Bortell officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 211 N. School St., Normal, IL 61761.

Mrs. Dunavin was born Dec. 4, 1912, at Galesburg, a daughter of Fred Dwight and Esther Marie Holt Esely. She married the Rev. Edward Lowell Dunavin at Rock Island on June 20, 1938. He died July 26, 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Sister Margaret Mary Dunavin, Valley of Our Lady Monastery, Prairie Du Sac, Wis.; two sons, Timothy E. (Betty) Dunavin, Rock Falls; and Thomas L. Dunavin, Park City; a brother, Charles (Liz) Esely, Galesburg; and three grandchildren.

The grandchildren are Amy Dunavin, Columbia, Mo.; Anna Dunavin, Arlington, Mass.; and Joseph E. Dunavin, currently serving a full time Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Elisabeth J. Dunavin.

Mrs. Dunavin was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal, and the Yokefellows Sunday School class.

The Rev. and Mrs. Dunavin served numerous small rural Methodist congregations throughout Central Illinois, until their retirement to Bloomington in 1975.
