Jesse Long was born in Rivertown, Campbell County (now Fulton), Georgia and a long time resident of the Warm Springs area. He ran a small eatery called The Pie Joint, located at the train station in Manchester, and was well-known for his barbecue. He was also a close friend of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who it is said, enjoyed his barbecue immensely. He was the son of William Washington Long and Martha Louella Smallwood Long.
