Calculated birth date from grave stone death date and age at death.

Rachel was a daughter of Strangeman JOHNSON who was probably born in Virginia. His date of birth as recorded in Quaker records was 1772, 9th month, 28th day, and he was a member of the Society of Friends until he was disowned from the Society on 1796, 10th month, 11th day. Rachel's mother was probably Mary (WHITAKER) JOHNSON, as Strangeman JOHNSON took out a marriage bond between Mary WHITAKER and himself in Rowan County, North Carolina, on 6 March 1798.

Rachel's husband was Thomas JOHNSON (son of Anderson and Sarah (BROOKS) JOHNSON) who was a member of the Society of Friends and who condemned his marriage out of unity to Rachel, meaning that when he married her, she was not a member, most likely because her father did not rejoin the Society.

She and her husband Thomas JOHNSON were double 3rd cousins, 1x removed. They were both JOHNSON descendants and ELLYSON descendants.

More information can be found in William Wade Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Volumes 1 (North Carolina) and 6 (Virginia).

The east boundary of the cemetery is on a diagonal with a southeast plowed field. The graves of Thomas, Rachel, and their daughter Rebecca C. who died at age 18, are roughly 50ft west of that field and roughly 400ft down its parallel running north to south.
