Micah's mother died due to childbirth complications when he was born in 1734. His father remarried in 1738 to Mary Taylor.

Marriage record revealed Michael Gilbert and Mary Gallion married in 1757. Michael was born in Maryland in 1734 and Mary was born in 1739.

Micah was about twenty-three and Mary (b.1739 d.1823) was about eighteen when they married.

The 1776 Maryland Colonial Census revealed Michael (42) owned four slaves and they were living in Susquehanna, Harford County, Maryland.

Micah was the overseer of public roads in Susquehanna Hundred.

The 1790 census revealed they were living in Harford County, Maryland. Household members: Micah (16 & over), Jacob (under 16), Amos and one male (16 & over) and wife, Mary, Neomi, Phoebe and one female.

The 1800 census revealed Micah owned four slaves and they were living in District 2, Harford County, Maryland. Household members: Micah (45 & over), Mary (45 & over), Jacob (16-25), Amos (26-44), Naomi (under 10), Phoebe (10-15), Mary (16-25) and one female (26-44).

The 1820 census revealed Micah owned three slaves and was engaged in agriculture. Household members: Micah (45 & over), Mary (45 & over), granddaughter, Aquila (10-15) and one female (26-44). His son, Amos was living next door.

The Gilbert's owned a large amount of land between Aberdeen and Carsin's Run which was referred to as "Gilbert Town" on the 1858 map of Harford County, Maryland. The Gilbert's were prominent citizens who contributed to the development of agriculture in District 2 and they were very active in civic, political and church affairs for over 250 years.
