Services have been set for the Rev. Hobart Ronald Freeman, 67, of Monroe, who was killed early Saturday morning in an apparent hit-and-run accident on a freeway near Houston, Texas.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Mitchel Bean, pastor of Victory Baptist Church, Cadillac, will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Born April 11, 1932, in Detroit, he was the son of Herman R. and Marie L. (Sauer) Freeman. He married Naomi L. Bean July 4, 1952, in Springfield, Mo.
He was employed for 25 years by General Dynamics, retiring in 1987 from the company's San Diego, Calif., space division. For the last 10 years, he was employed by DaimlerChrysler Corp. He had been working at the Saltillo, Mexico, plant.
An ordained Baptist minister, he served as the pastor at Bible Baptist Church, Monroe; Taylor Baptist Church, Taylor, and Ambassador Baptist Church, Allen Park.
He served in the Navy, 1950-54.
He was a graduate of Cass Tech High School, Detroit: Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti; Wayne State University, Detroit; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Bible Baptist College. He received an honorary doctorate degree from Sacramento College, Sacramento, Calif. He was a member of Chess Club of America and Eagle Scouts of America and held several U.S. patents.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Dr. Michael (Mrs. Janet Lee) Hoberg of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Neil (Judy Lynn) Komisar of Monroe; a brother, Roy A. of Diamond Bar, Calif., and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jeanne Marie Freeman.
