Born in Chilicothe, Ohio. Came to Kansas at the age of 5 (1869), and settled near what is known as old Greenwood City, making his home in and around Toronto since.
He married Dolly Ann Moore on April 16, 1885. To this union were born 2 sons, Van A. Gleason and Ellias M. Gleason, both of Big Sandy community and with whom he was making his home at the time of his death. Uncle Joe, as most people knew him, was the last of a family of thirteen children. He also leaves to morn his passing, two grandsons Lauren Gleason and Marion Gleason.
