Alton E Lamb, Sr, affectionately referred to as "Bud" for most of his life, lost his battle with cancer on September 27. Bud was born in Salem, OR on February 3, 1926. At the age of two, he moved to Santa Cruz and then to Seaside where he lived for nearly 40 years.
Bud was a well known Monterey Peninsula automobile mechanic for over 40 years, owning Bud Lamb Chevron stations in Monterey and then Pacific Grove. This was the place he bought to train his sons to be gifted mechanics. He prided himself on his customer service to numerous generations of customers who brought their cars to him and only him to service. After his sons were grown, Bud went on to work at Abrego Union 76 in Monterey until he retired at the age of 62. The only cars he worked on from that point on were his own. Bud's retirement move in 1989 was to Prescott, AZ. A few years later, he moved to Wickenburg, AZ where he spent the last 20 plus years. Bud's love for his adopted state of Arizona was based on his appreciation of its beautiful deserts, numerous one-of-a-kind cacti and the wonderful dry heat.
Bud married his high school sweetheart, Ann Casati Lamb, after college and together they had ten children. His second marriage was to Margaret Ohye Lamb and together they had two children. He leaves his remaining eleven children, Cathy and Jennifer of Carmel Highlands, Alton, Jr. (Amelia) of Hollister, Doug of Marina, Dale (Kat) of Seaside, Charlie (Lisa) of Kaysville, UT, Mary, Jeff, and Darrell of Salinas, Marlo of Kansas City, MO and Robert (Tiffany) of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his son, Earl "Buddy". Bud also leaves his sister, Maybelle Porter, and his brother, Leland of Seaside; nineteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud enjoyed his last years raising African violets and Christmas Cactus. He enjoyed listening to Big Band music and doing word search puzzles. He especially enjoyed his daily telephone call from Pacific Grove from his favorite niece, Patricia Owens. Their devotion was beyond neighborliness.
