Her oldest brother John took his mother, pregnant with her 10th child, and his younger siblings to Fort Nisqually in the Washington Territory. When her mother was granted letters of administration to her husbands estate Flora moved back to Victoria.

~~~She was the Matron at St Anne's convent in Victoria, this is where her mother Isabella died in 1885. Flora signed her mother's death certificate. Flora was transfered to New Westminster where she was the matron at Woodlands Asylum. She is noted as being a pioneer in humane mental health care.
