Mary Orva Rhoton Hancock, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home in Taylor, AZ on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.
A viewing will be held in Taylor, AZ on Sunday evening, Sept. 30th from 5-7:00 PM in the Relief Society Room at the Centennial Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral services for Orva Hancock will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 1st in the same chapel with a viewing to be held an hour prior to the service.
Orva was born June 30, 1918 in Shumway, AZ to Lorenzo Dow and Jennie Rhoton. Orva and her husband Vic lived in Winslow for over 40 years, where they raised their 5 sons. They owned and operated Vic's Dairy Queen in Winslow for 50 years where she worked many of those years before they sold it to their son Lloyd.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother with many talents. She loved to quilt, embroider, crochet, knit, cook, bake and do canning. Her popcorn balls and apricot pies were legendary. All these talents she shared with many of her family and friends.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in Primary, Relief Society and MIA. She had a great love for her family and all who knew her and delighted in being around them; they loved her just as much. She always made everyone feel special.
Orva is survived by her 5 sons Van (LaDawn) Hancock of Winslow, Norman Hancock of Mesa, Donald (Susie) Hancock of San Tan, Darrel (Sandra) Hancock of Winslow and Lloyd (Carol) Hancock of Winslow. She has 24 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Dow and Ted Rhoton; sisters Louise Sabin and Joyce McCleve and countless relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents L.D. and Jennie Rhoton, her sisters Gen Young and Kathleen Stewart, by her husband Arthur Victor (Vic) Hancock, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery, Taylor, AZ.
