Frieda Louise Banitt, daughter of Theodore and Louise Stiller, was born on December 30, 1909 in Roscoe Township near Zumbrota, Minnesota,and was raised by Louis and Emma Starz following the death of her mother. Frieda died on September 19, 2012. She was a lifelong resident of Zumbrota. Frieda married Walter Banitt on June 26, 1930. She was happily married to Walter Banitt, for 35 years until his death in 1965. She is survived by 3 sons and their wives: Dr. Louis and Pat Banitt, Ames Iowa; Pastor Paul and Sharon Banitt, Maple Grove, Minnesota; and Pastor Robert and Harriet (Dixie) Banitt, Maryville, Illinois; 9 grandchildren: Jonathan (and Inga) Banitt, Peter (Susan) Banitt, Lisa (Bill) Banitt-Barry, Carlotta (Lon) Rosebrock, Hans (Alissa) Banitt, Nicholas Banitt, John (Shannon) Banitt, David (Karen) Banitt, and Michael (Anne) Banitt. She had 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Frieda was a faithful Christian, a loyal and loving wife, a devoted mother, and a successful business woman. Her faith in the Lord Jesus kept her strong and focused and her family was her treasure and pride. And she committed much time and energy to the success of Banitt's Store, first as the wife of the owner and, for 15 years, as independent owner.
Frieda and Walter belonged to Christ Lutheran Church where she served as the organist for many years. In l962, they joined United Redeemer Lutheran Church where she had continued in faithful attendance.
Frieda loved growing flowers and vegetables, and maintained a colorful and productive garden for many years. She loved to bake and always had homemade sweets in her home. She knit and crocheted dozens of afghans which she shared with many friends and all her children, grandchildren and great -grandchildren. She enjoyed independent living until late this summer.
She will be missed by many who enjoyed her friendship and her knowledge of the history of the community.
