Retired Dentist Is Dead at 90; Rites Monday
Dr James Herbert "Bert" Calder, 90, of 1527 B Avenue NE, lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids and a retired dentist died at his home at 5:30 pm Friday following a brief illness. He was horn June 10, 1873, in Cedar Rapids and was married to Bertha A. Tisdale June 16, 1902. Mrs. Calder preceded him in death in 1960. He had practiced dentistry in Cedar Rapids for 58 years before his retirement.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John W. Miller of Cedar Rapids; two sons, James H., Jr., of Milwaukee, and Jasper A. of Glendale, Mo.; one sister, Belle Moak of Baker, Ore., and eight grandchildren.
Dr. Calder was a member of St. Paul's Methodist church, Rotary club,Cedar Rapids Dental Society, Iowa D e n t a l Society and the Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, Delta Sigma Delta, and Imocron Kappa Upsilon, professional fraternities.
At the time of his death he was one of the oldest members of St Paul's church. He had served as president of the Iowa Dental Society, Cedar Rapids Dental Society, Cedar Rapids Dental Society and the Rotary club.
Memorial services: Turner chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday by Dr. Jackson Burns.
Burial: Cedar M e m o r i a l cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel until 9 p.m. Sunday. The casket will not be opened after the service. Friends may make a contribution to St. Paul's memorial fund.
