PROCTOR - Josephine Canapa, formerly of Proctor, died peacefully Tuesday, September 25, 2012, in Rutland, with family at her side. Jo was born November 25, 1918, in Proctor, to Ruggiero and Norina (Campana) Canapa.

She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the Vermont Marble Co. in Proctor and White Pigment Corp. in Florence.

Jo was the last of the "Canapa Girls" who, along with her sisters, Laura and Florence, were known to many for their generosity of spirit and sharing with family and friends. Anyone who visited their home always felt welcomed and left feeling better for having visited.

She is survived by her nephew, Roger Dumas and his wife MaryJean and their children, Kevin and Laura Dumas, and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bernard, Robert and Lena Canapa, Albina Boni, Florence Wallett and Laura Dumas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in St. Dominic's Cemetery in Proctor. Family and friends may call on Friday, September 28, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Josephine Canapa may be made to Rutland Health Foundation, RAVNA & Hospice, 433 West St., Rutland, VT 05701.
