LENTFER, TENA—Tena Lentfer was born to Frederick Wolfteich and Anna F. Markwardt Wolfteich on October 18, 1897, on a farm west of Bruning, and passed away March 6, 1991, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 93 years, four months and 16 days. She was the second of 12 children in the family.

Tena received the Sacrament of Baptism as an infant and at a young age was confirmed at the South St. John’s Lutheran Church (now known as Grace Lutheran) south of Ohiowa.
As a young child, her family moved to a farm south of Ohiowa. She attended a rural school through the eighth grade. As a young woman she helped with the farm work, caring for her younger brothers and sisters and also working out in other homes.

On September 27, 1923, Tena was united in marriage to Alfred Lentfer at the St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. Klatt. They started their married life on a farm northwest of Bruning, and belonged to the Lutheran Church in Bruning.

In 1926 they moved to a farm in Chelsea township and at that time transferred their membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva. In 1941, they moved to a farm they purchased southeast of Geneva, where they spent their remaining life. They moved to their new home in Geneva in 1962.
Tena’s main interests were the upkeep of her home and garden. She was an excellent cook, also enjoyed canning, taking care of the poultry, and helping her husband on the farm.

In 1990 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Due to failing health, Tena entered Heritage of Geneva on December 5, 1984, and was a resident until the time of her death.

Tena was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Anna Wolfteich; brother, George, and two infant brothers; sisters, Lena Hinkle and LaVern Garrison; twin sisters, Ella Hopken and Elsie Eppler.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred; brother, Rudolph; sisters Eda Schweer, Fern Most, and Marie Christiancy; brothers-in-law, Clarence Most, Francis Garrison, and sister-in-law, Alta Wolfteich, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva Saturday, March 9, 1991, with the Rev. Richard Schliewe officiating. Denise Hinrichs accompanied Jerry Schramm who sang “Jesus Lead Thou On” and “Abide With Me,” and the congregation which sang “Heaven is My Home.”

Pallbearers were Ronald Most, Bernard Wolfteich, Lowell Schweer, David Christiancy, Leonard Wortman, and Lambert Hopken. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
