Joe W. Long, age 89, of Duncansville, died Monday, February 5, 2018 at home. Born May 2, 1928 in Duncansville, he was a son of the late Edward Blair “Butch” and Elva M. (Dodson) Long. He married Aldine J. Walters, who preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2009.
Survived by 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and several grand-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cyril Dean “Bud” Long, and a sister, Loretta Thompson.
Joe was a 1945 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a US Army veteran, serving during WWII as a hospital medic. He retired from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. in 1992, where he was a truck driver.
Joe was a past member of Hick’s United Methodist Church and East Freedom United Methodist Church.
He was an avid camper and enjoyed tinkering with mechanical work.
Friends will be received from 5-7pm on Fri., Feb. 9, 2018, immediately followed by a funeral service at 7pm at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 4th Ave., Duncansville. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association (501 Howard Ave., Ste. D101, Altoona, PA 16601) and/or the American Diabetes Association (P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 223125.
