Following an illness of several weeks duration, Mrs S V Burks of Vinemont, aged 79 years, passed away Thursday, September 15th, at 9 am at the home of her daughter, Mrs T Walter Powell at Belview Heights, Birmingham.
Mrs Burks was the widow of Thomas J Burks of Vinemont, and was highly esteemed and loved by all who knew her.
After a short service at the home of her daughter, conducted by the Rev J L Moye of Hunter street Baptist church, and Rev A G Irons of the Fairfield Presbyterian church, funeral services were conducted at the Mount Zion Baptist church at Vinemont and were conducted by the pastor, Rev Horace M Layman, with interment at Mount Zion. Mrs Burks' grandsons were active pall-bearers.
Surviving are two sons and five daughters: Victor A Burks of Fairfield, G A Burks, Mrs T Walter Powell, Mrs W D Powell and Mrs J M Spiegle of Birmingham, Mrs Robert Huie of Decatur and Mrs Edward Huie of Babsom Park, Fla.
