Marvin Wade Tomlin, 79, of Monroe, passed away September 23, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Wood Tomlin. Born July 12, 1933, in Amherst Co., he was a son of the late William Orman Tomlin, and Dora Lee Martin Tomlin. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Tomlin, of Amherst; and a brother-in-law, Myree Campbell, of Greenville. Mr. Tomlin was retired from Canteen Vending Co., formerly Service America, and Macke. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Survivors also include two sons, Jeffrey Wade Tomlin and wife Cheryl, and Gregory William Tomlin and wife Lisa, both of Allwood; and his daughter, Dana Tomlin Stinnett and husband Scott, of Madison Heights; three sisters, Essie Fitzgerald, of Amherst, Susie Johnson and husband Charlie, of Fishersville, and Louise Campbell, of Greenville; sister-in-law, Grace Tomlin, of Amherst; mother-in-law, Lizzie Wood, of Fishersville; 6 grandchildren, Sara Rae Tomlin and husband Joe, of Amherst, Ruger Alan Tomlin and fianc‚e Amanda Tyree, of Amherst, Anna Marie Tomlin, of Madison Heights, William Clifton Tomlin and fianc‚e Courtney Corder, of Roanoke, Holley Lizabeth Stinnett, and EmmaLee Abigail Stinnett, both of Madison Heights; 2 great-grandchildren, Joseph A. Tomlin III, and Raymond Tommy Tomlin, of Amherst, other relatives and many friends. The family will receive friends tonight, from 6-9:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant UMC, by the Rev. Judy Morris, and the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to Mt. Pleasant UMC, 650 Thrashers Creek Rd. Amherst VA, 24521, or to the Pedlar Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, PO Box 637 Amherst, VA 24521. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the friends, relatives, and loved ones that have supported the family through this difficult time. Special thanks to the nurses of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, and Dr. Michael J. Kalafian and his staff, for all of their love and support.
