The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Grant officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery Fairfield, Jefferson Co., Iowa. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to whatever donor chooses.
Russell was born Dec. 24, 1904, in Fairfield, the son of Samuel Oscar and Rosa Marie Caldwell Russell. On Aug. 6, 1924, he married Minnie Elizabeth Freeberg. She died Aug. 20, 1952. On Sept. 1, 1963, he married Nevada E. Bradley.
He was employed by the CB and Q Railroad; for 13 years at American Chain and Cable Co.; and farmed for 28 years. He lived most of his life in the Fairfield community and also in Burlington.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Esther Elizabeth Snelling of Fairfield; a son Gaylord James Russell of Rennick, Mo.; eight step-sons, Tom Bradley, Jim Bradley, Charles Bradley, Jack Bradley, all of Fairfield. Jerry Bradley of Mount Pleasant, John Bradley of Summersville, S.C., Mike Bradley of Elliot City, MD., Richard "Pete" Bradley of Green Bay, Wis.; three step-daughters, Phyllis Kelton, Linda Vorhies, both of Fairfield, Ann Edwards of Ainsworth; nine grandchildren; 35 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 56 great-stepgrandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son William Stephen Russell; three brothers, Willie, Gilbert, and George; a sister Olive Heisel; a grandson; a great-grandson; and a great-stepgrandson.
