John Archer, 78, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 from a hard fought battle with West Nile Virus. John was born November 19, 1933 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Jack Archer and Rita Holland Archer. John graduated from Vinita High School in 1952. At the age of 16, John began working for his father at Archer Cleaners in Vinita. John relocated to Muskogee and took over ownership of Archer Cleaners from his father, Jack Archer. The original location was located at 420 W. Okmulgee and then was later moved to 700 W. Okmulgee. John grew and expanded Archer Cleaners with the addition of two more locations. All three locations are still in operation today. After approximately 50 years in the business, John retired in 2006. In 2010 he became a cancer survivor and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. John was on the Board of Directors at Ranger Creek Yacht Club for over 25 years plus serving as Commodore for the Muskogee Boat Club. John was currently serving the City of Muskogee on the Planning and Zoning Committee, Street Department Committee and the Airport Board. John enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved going to his cabin on Ft. Gibson Lake and taking his boat out to fish. He was also an avid quail hunter and enjoyed watching his birddogs work. John was a loving, kind, and compassionate man and would help anyone he could. He loved his customers and friends and touched many lives. John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Rita Archer; and his brother, Richard Archer. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda (Lynn) Gregory Archer; son, Greg Archer and wife Christine; his grandchildren, Colton Archer and wife Rachel, Carsen Archer, and Fallyn Cannarsa; his great grandson, Carter Archer; his sister, Judy Judkins; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Gregory Yardy; and many other relatives and good friends.
