Merdell Williams, 96, died on Friday, June 2, 2017 in Georgetown, Tx.

Merle Merdell Conaway was born on March 14, 1921 to John Jefferson Conaway and Emma Jones Conaway on a farm north of Georgetown on Berry's Creek.

She lived all of her life in or near Georgetown and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1939.

Merdell married Joe Williams Jr. in 1940.

They were blessed with two sons:

Robert Eugene, who died soon after his birth, and Joe Robert III prior to Joe going overseas to fight in Europe with the Army during World War II.

After the war, they had a daughter, Janis and another son John Marvin.

While Joe was overseas, Merdell worked as a telephone operator.

She and her young son shared a home with Joes' oldest sister and her husband: Georgie and Marvin Tucker and their daughter Mayre.

After the war, their family increased when her nieces and nephew: Frieda, Claudette and Jackie Conaway came to live with the family.

At this time, Merdell returned to the workforce and held several jobs around Georgetown with the last one being Secretary for the First Baptist/Main Street Baptist Church.

She worked at this job for her beloved church for over 30 years.

Merdell had a dear friend, Marie Woolsey.

They went through school together and Merdell , Joe

and Marie loved to go to Canton and to flea markets.

After Joe's death, in 1983. Marie and Merdell travelled extensively throughout the United States.

Because of her love of everything Elvis, no trip was ever complete without passing through Memphis and Graceland.

Merdell was blessed with a large extended family whom she loved and was so proud:

Joe R. Williams III (Mary), Janis Williams Cassens (Curtis), John Marvin Williams.

Grandchildren:

Jason Williams(Traci), Bradley Williams(Sharon), Holly Rhodes(Kevin), Katie Dunnan, Gary Cassens(Laura), Karen Bernd(Kevin Wenske), Rebecca Hawes(Clay) and Benjamin Williams(Lindsey), 12 Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Services will be Thursday June 8, 2017 at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 N. IH 35, Georgetown, Texas. Visitation at 9:00am, Funeral Service at 10:00am, burial will follow at Berry's Creek Cemetery.
