Rootsweb.com and Ancestry.com records, show that William C. Chain was born and raised in Stark, Ohio, the son of William C. Chain Sr. and Ann Hatcher Chain; along with 7 siblings. In 1861 he married Matilda Case in Pennsylvania and they lived near Oil City, PA, where their 3 children were born (Charles, Edgar and Alice). They moved to Atchison County, Kansas prior to the 1880 Federal Census, where Matilda died in 1887. She is buried in the Nortonville, Jefferson County, Kansas Cemetery (FAG#: 9774418). At that time Charles would have been 24 and Edgar 20 and Alice 10. A couple years later, in 1889, William married Maggie A. (?)(age 44), who appears in the 1900 Fed. Census with William (age 61). They live in Alliance, Ward 6, Stark County, Ohio. None of the children are listed. William C. Chain died in 1917 and is buried in Old Union Cemetery, Stark County, Ohio.
