William Edward Alexander, Jr., 90, of Viking Place, Greeneville, passed away Saturday evening, September 22, 2012 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He retired from Duke Power Plant.

Mr. Alexander was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife: Gaynelle B. Alexander; two sons and daughters-in-law: William Edward Alexander III and Sheila of Greeneville and James and Jackie Alexander of Durham, North Carolina; grandchildren: Jennifer Gibson of Greeneville, Christy Ward and spouse Tony of Fall Branch; three great grandchildren: Abbye Grace Gibson, Benjamin and Henry Ward; brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Nancy Alexander of Morganton, North Carolina; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Betty and Pink Walker and Myrtle and Walter Wortman, all of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late William Edward and Flossie Hicks Alexander and was preceded in death by four brothers: Leroy, Boyd, Clyde and Clarence Alexander; and a sister: Ruth Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sarah Emerick will officiate.

Interment will follow in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.

Dr. Mandeep Bakshi and staff and the nurses of ICU and 4th floor at Laughlin Memorial Hospital will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The Greene County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team will conduct a military graveside service.
