SFC (Ret.) Brantley J. (B. J.) Crawford, Sr., 78, passed away on Sunday (September 23, 2012).
SFC Crawford was born October 1, 1933 to the late Monsie and Gladys Crawford in Waycross, GA. He joined the United States Army in 1952, having served several tours overseas in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. During his career in the Army he received several medals before retiring after 27 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Ray Crawford, Monsie Crawford, Jr. and Larry Crawford; a special brother-in-law, Fleming J. Melton; and his step-mother, Blanche Crawford.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Reecy Altman Crawford of Columbus, GA; two sons, Brantley J. Crawford, Jr. (wife DeLisa) of Eastman, GA and Billy Brad Crawford of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Crawford (Lorraine) of Hampton, GA and Bobby Crawford (Ocie) of Waycross, GA; four sisters, Geneva Melton of Waycross, GA, Elwanda Howell of Blackshear, GA, Jerrell Bednar (Jim) of Waycross, GA and Veneita Schwartz (Paul) of Waycross, GA; a special friend and caregiver, Fay Lathan; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday (September 26, 2012) at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4 until 6 p.m. Monday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, and also 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday Music Funeral Home, Waycross.
