Earl Dean Rites Held Sunday At Methodist Church

Earl Dean, age 74, passed away at the family home on College Street about 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11 following an illness of several months.

James Earl Dean was born April 3, 1896 in Grandview and was a lifelong resident of this community. His parents were James S. and Emma Florence Graham Dean.

Dean was a retired building contractor and carpenter. He and his father, also a contractor, built the first brick building in Borger, Texas. The building is still standing.
Dean was a veteran of World War I, having served in the army. He was an active member of the American Legion and had served as Adjutant of Post No. 349 for many years. In the 1930's he served on the city council of Grandview for about ten years. He was an active member of the Methodist Church and had served as a Steward and as a member of the official board for many years.

He was married to the former Eva Lee Ellis on November 7, 1943 in Grandview. She survives him. Other survivors include three brothers, A.N. Dean of Houston, Wayman L. Dean of Cleburne and Wilson A. Dean of Grandview; two nephews and one niece.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. Officiating were a former pastor, Dr. Sidney Roberts of Dallas, and Rev. Tim Russell, present pastor. Active pallbearers were C. W. Berrier, Tom Ball, Billy Beard, Doug Carter, A. R. Beans, B. B. Aldridge, Ed Huffman, and Jack Johnston.

Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Clayton Kay Funeral Home.
