PROVIDENCE -- Mahoney P. "Moe" Cabral, 88, of Rochester, Mass., died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Gladys (Cooper) Cabral; they were married 37 years.
Born in Rochester, the son of the late Manuel Cabral and Matilda (Varella) Cabral Smith, he lived in the town for many years, later living in Boston before returning to Rochester after his retirement.
Mr. Cabral was a 45-year member of the Laborers International Union of America. He worked as a labor foreman in Boston on many projects, including the construction of the Prudential Building. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church and the Cape Cod Birdies Golf Club.
He was well-known in the community for his flower and vegetable gardens, his stone walls and his great sense of humor.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, Kenneth Cabral, Ali Cabral and his wife, Onega, and Len Cabral and his wife, Judy, all of Providence; two stepdaughters, Mary Pearsull and her husband, Bill, of Rochester, and Elaine Greene of New York; a sister, Lena Britto of Rochester; three grandchildren, Kobie, Nuala and Leana Cabral; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Maylene Cabral; four step-grandchildren, Jack, Timpella, George Greene and Trinette Pearsull; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was the stepfather of the late Louis Earkett and Louise Earkett and brother of the late Flora Monteiro, Josephine Joseph and Theodore "Dot" Cabral.
His funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Rochester. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Rochester.
