Petis Raye (Hoyle) Black was also known to her family as Pettus Ray Hoyle. She was the youngest daughter of Robert E. Hoyle and Naomi Parker. She was married to Jacob Monroe Black Sr. on February 21, 1913. Together they had two children Vidalea Black and Henry Monroe Black. Jacob and Pettus later divorced where Pettus never remarried. Pettus was survived by both of her children (now deceased), several grandchildren, and at least one sister.
