CHARLOTTE - Mr. James Albert Culp, 87, of Charlotte, died on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Asbury Care. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Anthony Moore and the Rev. Karen Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Culp family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, 8559 Cook St., Mt. Pleasant, 704-436-9915.

Mr. Culp was born on Oct. 25, 1921, in Cabarrus County, son of the late Osco Sylvester Culp and Florence Hammill Culp. He was a partner in Culp Brothers Construction Company for 40 years. He was a very active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church all of his life, as well as other churches where he lived. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club and the Association of General Contractors.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Williamson Culp; son, Alan Culp, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Martha Helms, of Greensboro, N.C., and Rebecca Martel, of Austin, Texas; brother, O. S. Culp, of Gold Hill; grandchildren, Andy White, Emily Midea, Summer Shaw, Blair Robinson and Melinda Sander; and 10 great-grandchildren.
