Law Figure Wilford Long Dies In Portland Hospital
Wilford Caleb Long, a Portland area labor relations attorney representing employer groups, died Monday at local hospital. He was 62.

Mr. Long, of 1620 SW Maple Crest Drive, was born in Portland Oct. 22, 1906. He began his law practice in 1929, devoting nearly 40 years to labor relations work.

Funeral for Mr. Long will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at J. P. Finleys and Son, with interment at Riverview Cemetery mausoleum.

Mr Long attended Holman grad school, was graduated from Jefferson High School in 1919 and received his B.S. and law degrees from the University of Oregon. He was admitted by the Oregon State Bar Association to practice in 1929. He did labor relations work for the retail food industry from 1930 to 1936, an administerd the voluntary stabilization program in Oregon for the NRA food code authority, 1937-41.

In 1941, Mr. Long joined the legal staff Office of the Price Administration in Washington, D.C., and served in 1943 as assistant to the labor attorney in the San Francisco regional office of the War Labor Board. From 1946 to 1966, Mr. Long returned to private practice in Oregon, representing employer groups in labor relations. He entered a general law practice in 1966, retaining some special labor accounts.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church and a member of South Gate masonic Lodge No. 182 of Portland. He was active in many Masonic activities, was a worshipful master in 1940, and served the Grand Lodge as right worshipful deputy to the grand master of Masons in Oregon until his death.

He was a member of the Portland Scottish Rite, Knights Commander Court of Honor, Portland Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons, Red Cross of Constantine of Portland, Oregon Commandery No. 1 Knights Templar, the Al Kadar Shrine, and the Order of Eastern Star.

He was the executive secretary of the Building division of the Association of General Contractors of America's Portland Chapter for 17 years. He was a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Multnomah Bar Association and the Southwest Portland Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Louisa K., Portland; two sons, Wilford C. Jr. and Robert A., both of Portland; his mother, Mrs. Guy W. Long, Portland; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Higby, Downey, Calif.
