She married David Edward Garland. They had two sons, Raymond and Jerry.
Mary had been a resident of Des Moines, Iowa, most of her life and had a long career as an accountant at Massey-Ferguson and Meredith Publishing.
Mary died of a heart ailment on April 10, 1997, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services were held April 14 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial in New Altoona Cemetery in Altoona, Polk County, Iowa.
Survivors include her sons, two sisters, Virginia McClish of Des Moines, Iowa, and Dorothy Enright of Othello, Washington; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
Mary was loved and cherished by her family. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and bringing everyone together for holidays and family reunions.
Mary's granddaughter recalls the fun they had during a trip to Colorado (when the granddaughter was 16 years old). They visited many popular destinations including Red Rock Canyon, Pikes Peak, the U.S. Naval Academy, Lookout Mountain, Clear Creek Canyon and many other locations. They had fun seeing the sites and spending time with Mary's brother and sister-in-law, Bill and LaVon Tilden. The highlight of the trip was when they visited the University of Denver campus. It was a life-changing trip for Mary's granddaughter.
