Joseph Aaron McCoun son of John and Cornelia McCoun was born at Wastha [editor: Washta, Cherokee County], Iowa on October 28, 1876 and departed this life in his orchard, Nebraska home on February 25th, 1939.

Mr. McCoun grew to manhood in Iowa and on September 9 1889 [editor: according to marriage record and the 1900 Federal Census, they were married on September 9, 1899] he was united in marriage to Ida Conelly Cherokee, Iowa; to which union were born a son and daughter.

In 1922 the family moved to Orchard were Mr. McCoun engaged in the plumbing business and became a familiar personality building up a large circle of friends.

Failing health cause the family much concerned so that in September of 1938 he entered the University Hospital at Omaha were all that was possible was done to help and relieve him but the nature of the ailment the five medical skill and after many trying months he was called from his suffering into eternal rest.

Patience and fortitude during the long days and nights Mark Mr. McCoun as a man of strong will and courageous mean for only those who suffer can truly know the curry to takes to await patiently the messenger of death, knowing this the only release from pain.

Left to mourn are the wife, son Bernard of Neligh, daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Patterson of Orchard, six grandchildren and three brothers, Samuel, Marathon, Frank of Wasthe [editor: Washta] and John all of Sioux City, Iowa, besides a number of other relatives and a large circle of acquaintances and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 from the Orchard U. B. Church, the pastor Rev. C. F. Wantz in charge. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
