Before her death, she did not live with her husband and children in Auburn County, Nebraska, but resided in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, probably in a "sick house", or at least with a family by the name of Hickey. She died from typhoid fever on 27 February 1882, at Nebraska City. (Her family returned to Knox County, Illinois.)

"Mrs. Gerrauld the poor woman who died in the Hickey house on lower Main street Sunday night, was buried today."
