Alverna was born in Pottsville, Pa., on Oct. 4, 1911, to Raymond and Mary (Weaver) Hand. On July 17, 1931, Alverna entered into marriage with James E. Templin Sr. in Maryland.
Jim and Alverna made their way to Benzonia in 1945, making their there after life in Detroit, while Jim worked for the Ford Motor Company. In 1956, they established a life in Traverse City, where Alverna worked in nursing, caring for many through different facilities, including Munson. Alverna could often be found passing time with her love for knitting and crochet work. Just this past November 10, after 75 years of marriage, Alverna's husband Jim passed away.
Alverna is survived by her son, James (Joyce) Templin Jr. of Traverse City; two daughters, Carol Crawford of Benzonia and Eleanor (Lee) Henry of Kingsley; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and several other loving family members and friends.
Alverna was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents; a sister, Dorothy Little; and a son-in-law, Albert Crawford.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Commission on Aging or Munson Hospice.
