"Alfred Kenneth Embery, 75, Wathena, KS, died Saturday evening, April 24, 1999 at the home of his son in Lenexa, KS.

Mr. Embery was born March 11, 1924 in St. Joseph, MO to N.J. and Frances (Shalz) Embery. He graduated from Wathena High School and lived a long and fulfilling life in Wathena.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Company D, 2nd Tank Batallion, 2nd Marine Corps Division during World War II. He worked until retirement at Sister's Hospital in St. Joseph, MO.

Mr. Embery was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post #161 and V.F.W. Post #5531, all of Wathena.

Alfred married Maxine Manville on Jan. 29, 1945 in Wathena. She preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 1976. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marge Manville.

He is survived by one son, one sister, three brothers, and two grandchildren.

Services were today (Wednesday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wathena. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wathena where military honors were conducted under the auspices of the American Legion Post #161 and V.F. W. Post #5531. Harman Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena, was in charge of arrangements." per his obit.
