Death Comes to Veteran W.H.H. Stephens.
Mr. W.H.H. Stephens died at his home near Kibbee Tuesday night, December 27th, after a short illness. Mr. Stephens was about 76 years of age.
Mr. Stephens was a native of Glascock County, from which he moved to Johnson County about 30 years ago. For the past 18 years he has been a citizen of this county.
As a veteran of the late War Between the States, he never tired in rehearsing the events of the Sixties. He was true to the South, and while wars have come and gone, they meant less to him, as far as memory is concerned, than the great struggles in which he took a part.
Besides his wife, Mr. Stephens is survived by three sons and six daughters. The sons are J.W. Stephens of Bartow; W.T. Stephens of Cobbtown and C.R. Stephens of Summit. The daughters are Mrs. Annie Ganus, Keysville; Mrs. A.S. Watkins, Kite; Mrs. E.N. Wicker, Spann; Mrs. L.V. Belcher, Bartow; Mrs. E.J. Dixon, Cottondale; Mrs. H.C. Mathews, Savannah.
Remains were buried in the Hamilton Cemetery, Rev. A.G. Brewton of the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church officiating, deceased having been a staunch member of the Methodist church.
