Jack L. Owens, 88, of Beach Lake, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 18, in Palmerton Hospital, Palmerton. He was the widower of Helen C. (Petrick) Owens who died in January 2004.

Born in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Floyd Owens and Esther (Edinger) Palmer. He was living in Beach Lake for the past eight years. Prior to that, he was a lifelong resident of the East Stroudsburg area.

Jack worked a bread route in Monroe County his whole life. He started the famous bread route when he was 17-years-old in East Stroudsburg, traveling throughout Monroe County for the next 45 years. He started out as an independent bread man, then worked for the Marsh and Weber's Bakery in Stroudsburg, and later for five separate companies.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, and Fraternal Order of Eagles 1106, Stroudsburg.

Surviving are one daughter, Betty Lou Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Beach Lake; two grandchildren, Shaun Moore of Bow, N.H., and Diane Kurras of Hendersonville, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Cameron and Collin (twins), Delaney, and Erik; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Karbel; and four brothers, Charles F. Owens, William A. Owens, Stanley E. Owens, and Paul Owens.
