William Lee Cassady
1944-2001

William Lee Cassady, 56, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Friday evening (May 18, 2001) at his home.

The son of Virgil E. and Velma Odessa (Pope) Cassady, he was born December 26, 1944 in Kirksville, Missouri. On January 29, 1970 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Sharron Kay Barnes who survives.

William is also survived by one son, Christopher Cassady of the state of Florida; two daughters, Tonya Cassady of Kirksville, MO and Tammy Cassady of Novinger, MO; one brother, Donald Cassady and wife Mary of Novinger, MO; one sister, Velma Lavon Dixon and husband of Prineville, OR; three grandchildren, Garret Cassady, Nicholas Snyder and Nikki Snyder and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

William was a life long resident of Adair County where he received his education at the Sloan's Point and Kirksville public schools. He served in the United States Army. After serving his country, he returned home and was employed for thirty-two years at Florsheim Shoe Factory.

He was a member of the Kirksville V.F.W. Post #2508.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 23, 2001) at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with the Reverend Virgil Jones officiating. Music selections, "Railway to Heaven" and "One Day at A Time" will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist and Harold Moyer, soloist. Interment with military rites will be at Lutz Cemetery, south of Novinger, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Gary Blurton, Terry Crooks, Gary Williams, Alan Durham, Gary Luman, Bob Holt, Bill Holt and Joe Holt.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (May 22, 2001) with the family receiving friends from six to eight o'clock in the chapel of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home, 1008 Potter Avenue, Kirksville, Missouri.

An expression of sympathy in memory of William Cassady may be made to the Novinger League Baseball. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
