ASHLEY - Max E. Gipple, 80, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at 12:15 a.m. at his residence. He was born at Pleasant Lake on July 14, 1932, to Otis "Bill" and Nellie (Frick) Gipple.

He retired after 30 years of service from Cooper Tire in Auburn. He was a 1951 graduate of Ashley High School. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

He married Kathryn A. Shuler on February 9, 1958, at St. Michael's Catholic Church; she survives in Ashley.

Also surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Gipple, Devin Gipple, and Bob and Shelly Gipple, all of Ashley; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Matt Tompkins of Ashley; a half brother, Billy Gipple of Hamilton; a sister, Violet Wysong of Fort Wayne; a step sister, Mary Getts of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Sara Gipple Ring, BJ Gipple, Kyle Tompkins, Korey Tompkins, and Alyssa Tompkins; and four great-grandchildren, Hayley Ring, Hannah Ring, Madison Ring, and Aiva Ring.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Waterloo, with Father Dave Carkenord officiating. Pallbearers will be Kyle Tompkins, Korey Tompkins, BJ Gipple, Matt Ring, Rick Wysong, and Tim Wysong. Burial will be in Circle Cemetery, Hudson.

Friends and family may call at the Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson, from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or Multiple Sclerosis. Condolences may be sent to www.dalejohnson.com
