Sharon Springs- H. Douglas Wilder, 66, of Washington St., died Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1946 in Albany and was the son of Douglas C. and Margaret (Wilder) Cornish.
Doug received his Associate's in Applied Science degree from Hudson Valley Community College and retired after thirty-nine years of service as a switching technician for Verizon.
He was a member of the Lawyersville Reform Church where he served as an Elder. Doug was also a member of the Cobleskill Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #2040 where he served as past vice president, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and Clowns of America International performing as "Jelly Bean" as well as president of the Electric City Clown Alley.
He was a volunteer Girl Scout Leader and served on the Board of Directors for Mohawk Pathways Girl Scout Council. Doug volunteered for the American Red Cross, delivering blood to hospitals, also training Standard and Advanced First Aid and CPR. He was the first to train CPR throughout Schoharie County. He was also a member for the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Dept and Rescue Squad.
He traveled extensively and enjoyed his hobby of photography.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene (Winchester) Wilder, whom he married May 17, 1963; his children: Faith (Guy) Nobile of Hobart, Hope (Carl) Jones of Middleburgh, and Douglas Wilder of Robinson, IL; his grandchildren: Mike Culletto, Michele Culletto, Heather Culletto, Brandon Wilder, Alicia Jones, Shannon Wilder, and Vanessa Wilder; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Lester Albert Willsey of Schenectady, and Donald Eugene (Carol) Willsey of Troy, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Mae Arguris.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Lawyersville Reformed Church, 4957 State Route 145, Cobleskill with Rev. Pacia Ferrell Vamvas officiating. Burial will follow in Lawyersville Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, where an Elks Service will be held at 7:00 PM..
